Bio

-Visual Artist and Art Teacher in Public Education-

Tonia Ainot studied Fine Arts and Sciences of Art, (2007-12) at the Department  University of Ioannina in Greece and attended the Postgraduate Program "Creation and Communication in Audiovisual Arts" (2017-19). Her practice focuses on describing contemporary life and how the impact of the individual's actions forms the frame of society.

 

Statement

The artistic work depicts social issues with the aim to raise awareness and to expand a public discussion on how art can motivate the usual response to ecological-political-social issues. Starting from this overarching perspective, the paintings and videos try to give voice to the struggles, sufferings, and journeys of those in the zones of abandonment and marginalization as well as represent those (gendered or ethnic) voices that are oppressed and dominated by hegemonic structures in society.

These stem from a belief and understanding that by synthesizing the social facts with the artistic speech, artists may invite the public to an open and unconventional dialogue. The perspectives of work focus on describing contemporary life and how the impact of the individual's actions forms the frame of society. One of my projects, the “Sos-iety” 2017-21 underlines the daily life of injustice and the emergency of the social operation against femicide, human trafficking, bullying, stereotypes, gender discrimination, patriarchy, sexism, racism, homophobia, fascism, poverty, and the war against immigrants and refugees. The project aims is to raise social awareness and to motivate society to think about the possibility to involve in a less violent future. Her techniques contain mixed media such as painting, video art, urban activism, and installation.

Bio

Η Tonia Ainot (Αντωνία Ράντο) σπούδασε στη Σχολή Εικαστικών Τεχνών & Eπιστημών της Τέχνης του Πανεπιστημίου Ιωαννίων (2007-2012) και ολοκλήρωσε το ΠΜΣ στη Δημιουργία και επικοινωνία στη Σύγχρονη Εποχή στο Τμήμα Οπτικοακουστιών Τεχνών/Ιόνιο Πανεπιστήμιο. Η πρακτική της επικεντρώνεται στην περιγραφή της σύγχρονης ζωής και στον τρόπο με τον οποίο ο αντίκτυπος των ενεργειών του υποκειμένου διαμορφώνει το πλαίσιο της κοινωνίας.

Θέση

Στο έργο της αποδίδονται κοινωνικά ζητήματα με στόχο τη δημιουργία μιας δημόσιας συζήτησης για το πώς η τέχνη μπορεί να παρακινήσει τη συνήθη απάντηση σε οικολογικά-πολιτικά-κοινωνικά θέματα. Ξεκινώντας από αυτήν τη γενική προοπτική, η δουλειά της προσπαθεί να δώσει φωνή στις καταπιεσμένες λόγω φύλου, φυλής και τάξης πληθυσμιακές ομάδες που κυριαρχούνται από τις ηγεμονικές δομές στην κοινωνία. Τα παραπάνω συντίθεται με την πεποίθηση και την κατανόηση ότι συνθέτοντας τα κοινωνικά γεγονότα με την καλλιτεχνική γλώσσα, το κοινό προσκαλείται σε έναν ανοιχτό και μη συμβατικό διάλογο με την προοπτική δράσης ενάντια στις καταπιέσεις.

Προτείνοντας έναν ανοιχτό και ειλικρινή διάλογο με το κοινό, μπορεί να υπάρξει μια θετική εξέλιση απέναντι στη βία που δέχονται καθημερινά οι ευάλωτες κοινωνικές ομάδες. Ένα σημαντικό μέρος της δημιουργίας είναι η ανάπτυξη έργων συνδυάζοντας μέσα όπως, ζωγραφική, στένσιλ, ήχο, βίντεο τέχνη, εγκαταστάσεις και ζωντανές δράσεις.
